Equestrian Style

First in my instalment of trends is Equestrian style. This trend has come up a lot in the last few years. It consists of stirrup leggings, printed jackets and even a Gucci riding crop to complete this look. What can also be included is a printed head scarf to finish off the look for a classy style.

Since everyone is in quarantine at the moment, this may be the perfect moment to clear out your closet and prepare yourself for Autumn/Winter 2020, as this may be the next time we will properly be out. Designers such as Tory Burch and Brandon Maxwell are using riding elements in their collections of AW20/21. Horse inspired fashion has always been on the scene but at the moment these classic looks are being translated into a more classy type of fashion rather than it being a street style interpretation. Long riding boots combined with suits and even riding helmets have been spotted on the catwalk during the shows of Chanel, Burberry, Hermès, Michael Kors, Longchamp and Chloé as seen below. We have also seen a new version of tailored blazers and classic shirts.

This trend used to be exclusive to the classic equestrian brands like Hermès however, this has been adopted by lots of brands such as Michael Kors and Victoria Beckham and they are now using this as a new trend for them combining knee-high boots with suits, suède jackets and leather skirts.

There has also been some very interesting street style for this trend in a classy way and a causal ready to wear style. This style is extremely comfortable and ideal for someone with an active lifestyle.

Some classic trends within this umbrella trend are knee-high or even thigh-high boots. These can be worn in a fully equestrian look, or on their own with an everyday look. Choosing either brown or black coloured designs makes you look classy and elegant. You can amp up this look with a hat, for example, a fedora or a riding helmet or a classic scarf in a brown or burgundy style print. The trick is not to over accessorise though. The garments worn can just be a classic polo shirt and some jodhpur style riding trousers and a fitted tweed blazer for a full equestrian look. Or, on the other hand for a ready to wear street look, you could wear blue jeans and a striped top and a casual blazer instead (as above).

One brand that is perfect for this kind of look is Holland Cooper. They have many variations of equestrian attire from the classics to a more casual look. They have a range of priced items from an expensive plaid longline trench coat to some tailored houndstooth design shorts with a matching blazer and a roll neck jumper which are on the cheaper side.

So, this is the end of my first trend instalment. I will start this as a series and do a trend every few weeks with updated trends for the season. Equestrian wear is very versatile, elegant and classy and that is why I love it. There are more trends to come so stay tuned...
